Hastelloy® X

UNS N06002 High-Temperature-Nickel-Chromium-Iron-Molybdenum-Alloy

Hastelloy® X (UNS N06002) is a solid-solution strengthened nickel-chromium-iron-molybdenum alloy developed for outstanding high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance. With excellent oxidation resistance up to 2200°F (1204°C), it is one of the most reliable materials for extreme thermal environments and is the workhorse alloy for gas turbine combustor and transition hardware.

In addition to its high-temperature performance, Hastelloy X offers excellent fabrication and forming characteristics, making it a preferred choice for combustion cans, transition ducts, flame holders, and other complex hot-gas-path components in both aerospace and industrial gas turbines.

The alloy provides good resistance to stress-corrosion cracking in petrochemical service and resists oxidation, carburization, and nitriding in still air at elevated temperatures.

When to Specify Hastelloy X

  • Hastelloy X vs. Inconel 625 — X has better long-term oxidation resistance above ~1500°F and is the standard for combustor hardware. 625 has higher strength below ~1500°F and better corrosion resistance in chloride media.
  • Hastelloy X vs. Inconel 718 — 718 is precipitation-hardened with much higher strength but limited to ~1300°F service. X is the choice when service temperatures exceed 718’s range.
  • Hastelloy X vs. Haynes 230 — Haynes 230 has higher creep strength at the highest temperatures (>1800°F). X is preferred when fabricability and consistent supply are priorities.
  • Hastelloy X vs. 309/310 stainless — X is the upgrade for any application where 300-series stainless oxidizes excessively or loses strength at high temperature.
