C22000 Commercial Bronze

UNS C22000 90/10 Copper-Zinc

C22000, commonly known as Commercial Bronze or 90/10 Brass, is a high-copper brass alloy that provides an excellent balance of corrosion resistance, formability, and a rich gold-bronze color. With approximately 90% copper and 10% zinc, it bridges the gap between pure copper and the working brasses.

Although commonly referred to as a bronze, C22000 is technically a brass — the “bronze” name reflects its bronze-like color rather than its chemistry. It offers excellent cold-working and stamping characteristics, good corrosion resistance for industrial and architectural service, and superb solderability.

C22000 is used extensively for hardware, builder’s components, costume jewelry, fasteners, and decorative architectural products where appearance and formability are both important.

When to Specify C22000

  • C22000 vs. C21000 (95/5) — C21000 has more copper for an even redder color and slightly better forming. C22000 is more economical and slightly stronger.
  • C22000 vs. C23000 (85/15) — C23000 is more economical and slightly stronger but with slightly lower corrosion resistance and a less rich color.
  • C22000 vs. pure copper — C22000 is significantly stronger, more economical, and easier to machine than pure copper, with similar corrosion resistance.
