Hastelloy® C-276

UNS N10276 Nickel-Molybdenum-Chromium Alloy

Hastelloy® C-276 (UNS N10276) is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium-tungsten alloy engineered for severe corrosion environments. It is one of the most widely specified “go-to” corrosion-resistant alloys in the world because of its versatility across oxidizing, reducing, mixed-acid, and chloride-bearing media.

Hastelloy C-276 delivers excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking, along with strong performance against ferric and cupric chlorides, hot contaminated organic and inorganic media, chlorine, and seawater.

When to Specify Hastelloy C-276

Choose C-276 when your service environment combines chlorides with oxidizing or reducing chemistry, or when you need an alloy that performs reliably in mixed-acid service:

  • C-276 vs. 316L stainless — C-276 outperforms 316L in any chloride-bearing or aggressive acid service. Specify C-276 when 316L is pitting or cracking.
  • C-276 vs. Hastelloy C-22 — C-22 has higher chromium and is generally better in oxidizing acids; C-276 is better in reducing acids and mixed media. Many specs allow either.
  • C-276 vs. Inconel 625 — C-276 typically outperforms 625 in localized chloride corrosion. 625 has higher strength and better high-temperature performance.
  • C-276 vs. Alloy 20 — C-276 is the upgrade when sulfuric acid service involves chlorides or higher temperatures.
